How is D-chiro-inositol different?

D-chiro-inositol is produced from myo-inositol through an insulin-dependent epimerase. The two stereoisomers contribute to different inositol phosphoglycan second messengers, and their relative abundance varies across tissues.1

That biology argues against treating them as interchangeable. A formula high in DCI is not simply a “stronger” version of a myo-inositol formula.

What does the clinical evidence show?

Comparative human studies in women with PCOS have reported improvements with both myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol across selected metabolic or endocrine outcomes. Some studies suggest different patterns of response between the two forms.2

This human evidence supports DCI as a relevant complementary ingredient. The 2023 international guideline does not identify one specific inositol form, dose, or combination for universal use, so population, amount, and formula context remain important.

Why keep DCI lower than myo-inositol?

A 2019 study directly compared seven MI/DCI ratios in 56 participants and reported the strongest reproductive-outcome signal with 40:1.4

We use that comparative result as a practical formulation signal: 25 mg DCI complements 1,000 mg MI while keeping the predominant myo-inositol form at the center of the formula. The study included eight participants per ratio group, so its findings remain specific to the design and outcomes studied.

Is DCI stronger than myo-inositol?+

That framing is misleading. They have related but distinct roles; one is not simply a stronger version of the other.

Why not use DCI alone?+

Some DCI-only studies exist, but ovarian physiology and ratio studies provide a rationale for retaining myo-inositol as the dominant form in a combined women's formula.

Does 25 mg have meaning without the MI amount?+
